Spend five days mountain biking in Arkansas in the Ozark and Ouchita Mountains. Ride through the pine and hickory forest trails and enjoy stunning vistas and challenging riding. When you get back to your lodge, grab yourself a well-earned drink and head to the hot tub!
The US Interior Highlands, as the Ozarks and Ouachitas are collectively known, are gently rolling mountains and plateaus doted with limestone and dolomite glades in the southern US state of Arkansas. The mountains themselves are actually not that high- the highest summits are only 2,560ft above sea level. But what they lack in height, they certainly make up for in beauty. The mountains are covered by national forest and there are 13 Congress-designated wilderness areas. The area is criss-crossed by creeks, rivers and man-made lakes and covered in oak-hickory and pine forests.
This tour of five riding days and six-nights allows unique access into the unrivalled tranquility of the Ozark and Ouachita Mountains in Arkansas. Expert guides lead groups along the picturesque singletrack, flanked by hickory and pine forests. You will ride a selection of landscapes from bluffs along the Ouachita River, through creeks and open fields and up challenging climbs to reach jaw-dropping vistas. There is a huge selection of trail: over 137 miles is open to mountain bikes and this offers access to a stunning array of ridges, river sweeps and forest hollows.
Nature lovers will not be disappointed by the unrivalled colours of springtime and autumn in the Arkansas mountains. This is the trip for those looking to get back to nature, the weather is balmy, the seclusion unbroken. Water features are the order of the day: great creek runs and serpentine river-trails broken by exciting climbs up to stunning panoramas over the lush valleys below- what’s there not to like? If this all sounds too relaxing, don’t worry, your guides have enough downhill and generally adventurous trail to keep your blood pumping.
It’s recommended that you don’t come in without some intermediate mountain-biking experience and a decent level of fitness- guides can lead but they can’t do the cycling for you! You should make sure you’re well equipped for the terrain- that means right clothing and boots. Your tour company can recommend and source the right bike for you locally to make the most of this unforgettable riding adventure.
